LOCAL ARTIST WINS First Place at Canadian Bodyssey 2010 Face Painting and Body Painting Convention in Calgary, Alberta  this past weekend.  It was a celebration of living art and an opportunity for face & body artists across Canada, and around the world, to develop their skills, learn how to expand their business and compete against their peers in a face or body painting competition.  Bodyssey is geared to all levels of artists, from the very new to the very experienced.

Southern Alberta had strong representation in this years Bodyssey events.   Two painters from the Lethbridge area took home prizes in the “Face Paint” portion of the competition that was themed “Dungeons & Dragons.”   From Coaldale, Alberta, First place winner, in the Face Painting portion of the competition, was Criss Wiebe, of Criss Wiebe Face & Body Design.  Criss did an amazing job on her dragon queen design (Drag-On-Queen), which showcased her ability and techniques in blending, fine line work and originality of design.  Criss has been painting in the southern Alberta region as well as Lethbridge and Calgary area for the past 5 years and you may have seen her at one of the many local events she’s painted at; Hurricanes games, Canada Day Celebrations, Raymond Temple Hill Moto Cross Races, AGAPE’s Mad Hatter’s Garden Tea and Fundraiser, and Calgary’s Brentview Baptist Stampede event to name just a few.  Her work can be viewed on Facebook “Criss Wiebe Face Design”.

Second place winner in the face paint portion was Jheri Cooke, of “Another Pretty Face Painting”, did a beautiful design using a combination of professional grade makeup mediums.

As only a large gathering of liked minded individuals can do, artists will find support, understanding and direction in continuing their trade and developing their business at the annual Bodyssey conventions.

But there is still room if you want to learn to Air Brush….paint like the amazing Jodi Carr, Cathy Corbett, Lucie Brouillard or Mark Reid.  There are limited spaces available in classes by all these Masters.

This is a unique opportunity to learn from these incredible instructors in amazing disciplines in both Face and Body Art.

In the Case of Remy Audette, he is throwing in extra stuff into his masterclass, like getting to know what you can airbrush..other than bodies!  so he will teach how to expand your artistic expertise to decorate apparel, (Tee Shirts, bikinis), canvasses, helmets – you name it…if you are an air bursh enthusiast..you NEED to take this course with this guy.  I am reliably informed by a Montreal Local, that Remy is THE guy on the nightclub scene…and his work is extremely sought after.

Calgary doesn’t have a huge airbrush contingent…but we want to CHANGE that!!! come and learn from this genius!

Join us at Bodyssey – even if its only for Masterclasses!  you don’t need to register for the whole event…..Masterclasses all run for a full day of instruction with a limited number of students, and all cost $150 per day.

Contact Liz Mortlock on 403 202 3228 to book if you are not able to pay by pay pal.  Otherwise book via paypal – sending $150 to marionbrown@rogers.com – with a comment telling us whom you are booking with and when!

Producer, Bodyssey.

We were so pumped yesterday to learn that Lucie Brouillard had won the World Championship prize at the World Bodypainting Festival in Seeboden (bodypainting-festival.com).  The frustration is that currently the festival website doesn’t have photographs posted, so we are all champing at the bit, wanting to see all the brilliance of all those who competed….especially Lucie’s winning designs!  CONGRATULATIONS!

Bodyssey would also like to extend there felicitations to colleagues Alex Hansen and Yolanda Bartram who won the title in the Special FX Category of the same competition, and also to contratulate ALL the competitors who took part in a  superb exhibition of face and Body Art – Mark Reid, Nick and Brian Wolfe, and many, many others….. it is their contribution to our craft which keeps the rest of us wanting to learn more and to achieve greater things…..when I grow up …I want to be able to compete with this sort of brilliance…for now, I am content to let the Wisers, Marks, Lucies and others, take the pressure and create the magic – and I thank them all for it.  WELL DONE ALL COMPETITORS!

As we don’t have any pix of Lucie’s winning work…here’s one of her creations with its Creator!…watch this space, we will post pix as soon as they emerge.

Rebecca “Arty Brushstrokes” to teach at Bodyssey!

Learn the art of using split cakes and “Artybrushstroke” techniques in Face and Body Art from their creator – Rebecca T!

Rebecca, The Creator Of Arty Brush Cakes will teach you designs that look complicated, but can be created in just a few minutes.   In this extreme hands on class, you will learn  how to blend, high lite and shadow with a single stroke!   Rebecca will teach you brush stroke basics, and move on to Face Painting Designs using the original  Arty Brush Cakes.  This technique is not only a crowd pleaser…but, will help you move your line!

Rebecca will be giving classes at Bodyssey on Friday 26 and Saturday 27th August in Calgary.    There will be two levels of class, the first will focus on techniques and the second, more advanced, will cover how to use these techniques in different ways to emphasize designs and how to incorporate the techniques into body painting elements too.

These classes are yet to be inserted into the schedule, however we are delighted to know that Rebecca WILL be with us on Friday and Saturday, and that her Arty Brush Cakes will also be represented in our Vendors’ Room.
